TaylorMade Spider X Putters
TaylorMade's New Spider X Putters
TaylorMade have taken the hottest putter model ever seen on tour and gone a step further with it and the result is the new Spider X Putter. The Spider putter has been with us for a decade and this latest incarnation is not simply a facelift but an entirely new design that has been redesigned to further improve the Spider's unique approach to alignment.
Stability, Mass and Alignment - It's How We Roll
Distribution of mass is one of the key factors in achieving stability and removing movement artifact caused by micro adjustments to grip and stance. The new Spider X has it's mass around the perimeter of the head thanks to a heavy steel body (320g) and a lightweight carbon sole (just 15g). By combining these two materials the weight distribution has been optimised in a much sleeker head shape. As you look down at address the stark contrast of colours makes alignment incredibly intuitive. Add the mass and alignment improvements to a new, thicker Pure Roll insert and the result is something to behold.
What Do the Pros Think of Spider X Putters?
First of all, I think the True Path alignment in this is going to be a huge help. Stability wise, you aren't always going to have a perfect stroke, so if you can get something that gives more forgiveness and gets it rolling closer to the right starting line, it will make putting so much easier.
