A Brief history of Ping Golf
The history of Ping Golf is a success story that starts at the most humble of beginnings and sees the company becoming one of the most dominant premium brands in the game. The journey towards greatness began when Karsten Solheim, an engineer working at General Electric, became frustrated with the poor quality of putters available in the late 1950’s. Rather than simply blame his tools for a poor performance he set about designing and creating a superior product in his garage. When tested, the ball contacting the clubhead made a satisfying “Ping” sound and so the “Ping 1A” was born. Not long thereafter, in 1962, John Barnum won the Cajun Classic Open Invitational with a Ping club in hand recording the brand’s first PGA Tour victory.
