Callaway Golf Company was founded way back in 1982 when the Commodore 64 launched, the Falklands war began and the population of the People’s Republic of China surpasses 1 billion. Back then company founder Ely Callaway Jr was revelling in his own success in the textile and wine industries and with a reported profit on $9 million from the sale of his vineyards was looking for the next challenge. The then owners of HIckory Sticks USA were short of funds, seeking investment and after first buying half of the company and renaming it to Callaway Hickory Sticks USA Ely went on to buy the remainder of the business and in 1984 the brand became Callaway Golf Company.
From these humble beginnings Callaway has grown to become one of the most well known manufacturers of golf clubs, bags, balls, clothing and more.
