The SIM2 fairway metal follows on from the highly acclaimed SIM range, launched in 2020. Like the other fairway metals, and of course drivers in this range, the SIM2 Max fairway features Twist Face technology which helps golfers with straightening up common off-centre hits. Another great feature is the V steel technology, reintroduced into the SIM range in 2020. This tech is great in fairway woods as it reduces the friction with the turf and helps with ball striking. The sole design on this fairway metal is also going to launch the ball in the air which works great with the low spin characteristics of the club.
There are some great custom options in terms of shafts – very important for fixed head clubs as well as a number of loft options all the way up to 9 wood. A club that I think could be a great option for those trying to thin out the number of clubs could be the 3HL model. At 16.5 degrees this could sit in between the 3 and the 5 woods really well and maybe reduce a club from the bag.
Who is the Sim 2 Max Fairway For?
This fairway metal range is likely to appeal to a wide range of golfers as it’s a great-feeling club, which is long and forgiving. When choosing clubs at the distance end of the bag it’s very important to select a club or clubs that a truly serves your game. When coaching players, it strikes me that a lot of golfers carry multiple clubs that go similar distances so maybe it’s time to streamline at that end of the bag. On a different note, in recent years there has been a huge push to move players towards hybrid clubs to replace long irons, and whilst that is a sound idea many golfers may actually benefit more from higher lofted fairway woods.
